Method Discussed - Primal Pendulum Exercise
Today I was training my client Candice how to do two of the most basic primal movements you can do, a walking lunge and a squat. I have found that just doing these exercises alone, without external resistance, can often be ineffective and absolutely boring! One of my main interests within the body is being able to challenge its proprioceptive awareness. One of the best ways to do that is by meshing a pendulum swing while doing the movement itself. This technique was implemented with the walking lunge. This involves much more concentration because you have an external force to work with rhythmically throughout the exercise. With the squat, I did something a little more complex by changing the planes of motion the body was running through, all the while developing the pendulum swing. This form of 3 dimensional training is extremely beneficial for proprioceptive adaptation. Along with doing the sagittal plane squat, you have to stabilize yourself, rotate in the transverse plane, mobilize yourself in the frontal all at the same time. Now that's what I call a neurologically stimulating exercise!!!
Best tip I can give someone for these exercises is to start with a basic pendulum squat (<a href='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0XmxnuWnSI&feature=channel_video_title' >Basic Pendulum Squat</a>). Allow your body to flow without trying to muscle the weight upward and be sure to lead with your hips. If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me at naudiaguilar@yahoo.com
