This was a wild result and the interesting part is what he discovered along the way. Through applying FP protocols, he realized grains were triggering chronic bloating in his abdomen. A lot of people are waking up to that connection. But the bigger point is what happens after years of living with a distended stomach.

When your abdominal wall stays bloated for long periods, your body adapts to that shape. Even if you remove grains and the bloating stops, the tensions that were created don’t magically resolve. You still have an abdominal wall that’s been stretched, obliques that have lost their connection to the internal chain, and adductors and pecs that aren’t syncing with the core the way they should. And when that chain breaks down, it trickles upward and downward, throwing off your lats, thoracolumbar region, and glute mechanics.

So yes, becoming aware of how grains impact your abdominal wall is important. But step two is retraining the tissues that were already compromised by those years of bloating. That’s exactly what we taught @brandon_adamson_ to do.

If you look at the exercises at the end, you’ll see a conscious effort to reconnect his core to every moving part of his body. Rewiring those relationships is how you reverse the long-term mechanical damage that bloating creates.

Avoid grains because they will cause issues. But if you want to fix the structural consequences, you need to rebuild those over-lengthened core fibers through Functional Patterns.
