🔹Long term posture results from September 2017- September 2021. Improved intra-abdominal pressure, joint stacking, and rib cage expansion has helped reduce the excessive curvatures in my cervical, thoracic, and lumbar regions. My weight distribution, which was dependent on my quads and forefoot, has shifted to be more supported by my glutes and superficial back line. These improvements have helped me decompress my shoulders and upper chest causing an increase in hypertrophy of my upper body. These changes occurred despite exercising significantly less than in the before photo.

This week four years ago I attended the Human Foundations course in Sydney. My journey into @functionalpatterns has gone beyond any expectation I could have in a training system. I don’t know if anyone has ever had the pleasure of feeling their body regenerating but it is the most surreal experience to date. Skin, fascia, my nails and teeth feel healthier and stronger. Scar tissue from surgeries and injuries adjusting and releasing to the point there is barely any left. Walking and running more comfortably than I ever have in my life I straight up feel like I’m 20. I’ve also never been more uncomfortable than I ever have in my life. Facing up to the reality that my behaviors and dysfunctional way of thinking and life application are the direct cause of degeneration and health. It’s been emotional. 9 month resting posture progress from my client Stefan. Since day one, he’s came in to work and it shows. Stefan is hyper mobile which has made structural changes very challenging since he wants to go way past functional ranges of motion. But that hasn’t stopped us, just more reason to build a better more functional body. All changes here done with Functional Patterns methods.
“I play competitive 4-wall handball of which endurance, focus and throwing mechanics are paramount. I use to train doing high intensity videos, traditional lifting & calisthenics, but none of it transferred to my sport in a meaningful way. In handball, the players who can utilize their body more effectively and efficiently while hitting the ball and maneuvering, are the ones who have the most success. I started FP because I found @fpminnesota was near me & because they prioritize running and throwing mechanics. I was apprehensive at first (having not seen their results first hand) but after a few sessions, I was already able to throw the ball significantly harder on my left & right side without feeling any sketchiness in my shoulder. At times during handball swings it would almost feel like my shoulder would flop around in the joint, only held there by the ligaments and tendons, instead of being supported. All the static stability & mobility work I had done did nothing to prepare my shoulders for the dynamic demands of handball. Later on in training I noticed that nagging injuries such has lower back pain & weakness in my left knee started disappearing. I immediately saw the value and committed myself to their process to prioritize my longevity. FP is challenging, not just physically, but mentally in a way that I had never experienced in any of my past training. Over the last few months, I felt how my body & movements were becoming more connected but I didn’t realize to what extent until seeing these changes. I look & move like a completely different person & have better results than when I was training twice as much in the past. Sometimes compensations/dysfunctions that we have reveal our personalities or our lack of abilities to face and solve the real problems. I don’t think I can change a person’s structure without changing what is inside of them. Still working on it. But this kid is getting more confidence because he knows how to use @functionalpatterns methods to maintain his posture. He is building a little machinist inside of him. That is very encouraging to see.
His scoliosis was getting worse every year. Practicing only one or two days a week wasn’t enough for him. So, I asked him to come to practice 6 days a week and also to pay attention to his own behaviors and consciously adjust those compensated postures on a daily basis. Five months later, we finally can see some differences and improvements.

In summary from previous posts, before FP Rudi had been through some health complications, such as spontaneous pneumothorax, femoral head fracture and retinal tear on his eye, because of which he had to undergo a surgery, after which he was told by the doctors that he should never load his body physically anymore. Rudi’s attitude towards the training process has been extremely disciplined, since he has never missed a single week of training (except Covid lockdown period) since his first session.
